I’d have to agree. Me and all of my non-christian friends were very offended that Gene try to include us. Nothing makes me feel less unified than a prominent leader within the Christian church recognizing other religions.

On a related note, it seems that many were upset that Gene’s prayer wasn’t very upbeat. In all honesty, do we pray for the upbeat and happy or those in need? We pray not only to communicate with a greater power and celebrate our faith, but also to remind us of how we can become greater people. Again, this is one aspect of prayer that I believe is universal regardless of faith.

I think Gene’s prayer was perfect. One half recognizing the challenges we face, one half praying for the man that will lead us in facing them.
