Google Earth and the Bible

Places as diverse as Think Christian and Metafilter are making the rounds with artwork from the Glue Society that shows scenes from the Bible as though they might be displayed via Google Earth.

Almost more interesting are the differences in the comments on the two above websites. Think Christian has a single moderated comment praising them as religious art. Metafilter’s users anticipate fundamentalism but with some insightful references to Auden and Dali.

As for me? I appreciate the combination/mashup of the two arenas. Christians have a great tradition of interacting with culture in just such a way, honored by Augustine and Karl Barth. More on that later. But, at our best, Christians should be mashing up technology and theology to create art and to express love for God.
